LEGO Just Dropped 12 New Pokémon Sets, and the Price Tag Surprised Me (In a Good Way!)

2026-06-12T19:06:32.655403+00:00

Okay, real talk — when LEGO dropped that massive Kanto Starters set for $650, my wallet actually physically flinched. I sat there staring at my screen thinking, "Cool, I can feed my family for a month OR own a plastic Charizard." Not a great trade-off.

But here's the thing that made me actually gasp (a happy one this time): LEGO just announced 12 new Pokémon sets, and they're ranging from $15 to $120. Say what now?

So, What's the Smart Play Deal?

For those who might be scratching their heads, LEGO's Smart Play technology is basically their way of making bricks that talk to each other. These special pieces can interact with your phone or tablet, unlocking extra features, animations, and ways to play with the sets. It's been exclusive to Star Wars for a while now, which honestly felt like a weird choice to me. I mean, Pokémon is literally the highest-grossing media franchise of all time. About time, right?

The Highlights That Have Me Weak

Charizard vs. Jolteon Ultimate Battle Set — This 751-piece beauty is the crown jewel of the drop. You can shake Charizard to wake him up, use healing sprays during battle, and actually train each Pokémon. How fun would this be to mess around with after a long day?

Pikachu's Training House — Because you literally cannot have a Pokémon LEGO line without a proper Pikachu feature. This one pairs with the Charizard set as an "all-in-one" experience, meaning you get all the Smart Bricks you need right in the box.

Mewtwo Lab Break Set — I'm weirdly excited about this one. The 605-piece set recreates Mewtwo's iconic escape from Team Rocket's lab, complete with a Master Ball accessory. You just need to grab Smart Bricks from one of the all-in-one sets to make it work.

Also New: Baby Pokémon!

Remember when we only got fully evolved starters? Well, LEGO heard us. This wave includes the infant forms of the original Kanto starters for the first time. Plus, we're getting Mew, Gengar, Jigglypuff, Lapras, and even some newer-generation creatures like Umbreon, Garchomp, and the Scarlet Violet starters.

And for my weird Bidoof truthers out there... they made a Bidoof. An actual Bidoof. In plastic. I don't know why this makes me so happy, but it does.

My Take

The pricing alone makes this wave way more accessible than that $650 monster from earlier. Plus, Pokémon turns 30 in 2026, so this feels like LEGO is actually committing to the partnership in a meaningful way. I'm cautiously optimistic that we'll see even more regions and Pokémon in future releases.

Pre-orders are live now on LEGO's website. I'm not saying I already added three sets to my cart, but... I definitely added three sets to my cart.

Gotta build 'em all, right?
