Okay, confession time: I've been carrying a laptop everywhere for years, but I almost never bring a mouse.
It's not that I don't want one. It's that every "travel mouse" I've tried has left me frustrated. They're either too small and cramped (looking at you, those tiny wireless mice that came free with a netbook in 2009), or they're big enough to be usable but require a separate carrying case or bag compartment. Neither option works when you're already juggling a laptop, phone, and whatever else makes its way into your pockets.
So when I heard about the Logitech Mobi Fold—a mouse that literally folds in half—I was intrigued. And skeptical. Folding technology works great for phones, but a mouse? That sounds like a gimmick waiting to fail.
I was wrong.
The "Why Hasn't Anyone Done This Before?" Factor
Here's the thing about the Mobi Fold: it sounds more complicated than it is. There's a hinge running through the middle of the palm rest, and when you want to pack it away, you literally just fold it in half like you're closing a paperback book. Pop it in your pocket. Done.
When unfolded, you've got a full-size mouse—about 4.75 inches long—that actually fits your hand comfortably. The V-shaped design is slim, sure, but your hand drapes over it naturally. No squeezing, no cramping, no "why do my fingers feel weird after an hour" moments.
This is the part that matters most. Most travel mice make you compromise on ergonomics for portability. The Mobi Fold refuses to make that trade-off.
What's It Like to Actually Use?
Let's be real: it's not going to replace your desk mouse if you do heavy design work or gaming. This isn't that mouse.
But for the stuff I do most—writing, browsing, managing spreadsheets, video calls—the Mobi Fold handles it all without complaint. You've got your standard left and right click buttons, plus a touchpad area in the middle that handles scrolling. No physical scroll wheel (obviously—there's no room for one in a folded design), but the touch-based scrolling works fine once you adjust.
One nice touch: you can pair it with up to three different devices via Bluetooth and switch between them with a button on the bottom. So if you're someone who bounces between a laptop, tablet, and desktop, you don't need separate mice for each.
The Price Question
At $80, this isn't an impulse buy. It's a splurge—specifically for the kind of person who knows exactly why they need a travel mouse and has been dreaming of one that actually fits in a pocket.
If you work from coffee shops, hotels, airport lounges, or basically anywhere that isn't a desk, this mouse was made for you. If you mostly work from home or an office and rarely travel, you can probably skip it.
But here's my take: I've tried a lot of "good enough" travel peripherals over the years, and they're usually just... disappointing. The Mobi Fold doesn't feel disappointing. It feels like someone finally took the "travel mouse" concept seriously and asked "what if we actually solved the size problem without making it worse?"
For the first time in a long time, I'm actually considering making a mouse part of my everyday carry. That's saying something.
